Sex and the city, where do I begin.
My journey began with sex and the city when I was ironing and I was watching TV and suddenly I changed the channel and it was on, I watched a back to back episode and it was just pure heaven, I loved every second of it and I could relate to a lot of the stories in the episodes. So I recorded as many episodes I could watch and so I went on and on about getting the box set with everyone when it came to Christmas and my boyfriend surprised me with it (we said we were not doing gifts, we had only been dating a month). Fast forward 3 years and I am sitting here talking about Sex and the city and watching it at the same time, on my box set of course. (I still have the same boyfriend as well by the way)
#Sex and the city has done so well with six series and two films all about love, friends, sex, New York, Fashion, Designer labels, Children, Men, Marriage, Apartments, Weddings, Affairs, Alzheimer’s, Puppies, Adoption, Cancer, Work, Writing. It has been so successful and with subjects and issues like these of course you can realise why. Everyone can relate plus the fact that everything is right there on the table is just brilliant, just pure entertainment.
So if you have been living under a rock for the past well forever, the television series started in 1998 and lasted till 2004 where there were 6 series, then four years later in 2008 the first film was born and two years after that in 2010 the second film was born. Who are the characters that make up ‘the sex and the city’ I hear you ask…
Well you have; –
Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) she is a writer, has a column about sex, friends, love, relationships which then turns into a book, her on and off relationship with ‘Mr John Big, AKA Big’ (played by Chris North) always leaves you with a question, she has a passion for labels and always looks amazing! Oh and she finally does get it on with Mr Big, gets engaged and then gets jilted to then get married.
Then you have Charlotte Davis turned Mrs MacDougal, back to Davis, finishing off with Goldenblatt, Charlotte works in an art gallery and finds herself lucky in love, when she gets married, to then get divorced and finally finds her soul mate Harry Goldenblatt (played by Evan Handler) who get happily married, adopt a beautiful girl Lily and then find themselves able to conceive naturally and have another beautiful girl Rose.
Then there is Samantha Jones (played by Kim Cattrall) who is all about the SEX, in every episode or every other episode she has a new fella, my best line from her when she is having lunch with the girls is ‘I’m dating a guy with the weirdest tasting spunk’ to which Carrie replies to a waiter ‘Can I cancel my rice pudding’ Pure perfection, that is Samantha all over. She finds herself meeting Jerry Smith, AKA Smith (played by Jason Lewis) after again on and off relationships they finally get together, she then finds out she has Breast Cancer and over coming it, they then break up in the first film but all on good terms.
Lastly you have Miranda Hobbes (played by Cynthia Nixon) who is a very successful lawyer who falls in love with Steve (played by David Eigenberg) they are dating, break up and then find themselves pregnant. After being separated and having joint custody they decide to be together, where they get married and move to Brooklyn. In the first film they are becoming further and further apart and Steve cheats, through counselling they rekindle their relationship and vow never to talk about the event again and they move. In the second film Miranda quits her job to be happy and realise work isn’t everything.
With each character it always comes back to friendship and them all being soul mates. So I cannot forget the two Gay best friends. You have Standford Blatch (played by Willie Garson) who is Carrie Bradshaw’s and the you have Anthony Marantino (played by Mario Cantone) who is Charlotte Hobbes. They equally give us some laughs, romance, awkwardness, all round pure entertainment. It just shows how important friends can be and always will be.
Is this the end of Sex and the City, will there be a third film, one more series to see where Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda are and to close the book one last time? or did that already happen with the second film?, that folks is the million dollar question!
